Yearly wellness exams are recommended for all pets, including exotics. During your pet’s visit, your veterinarian will perform a full physical exam, weigh your pet, and test for parasites. They’ll also discuss your pet’s diet and nutrition, tips for creating a healthy habitat, and concerns to keep an eye out for. More frequent visits should be considered if your pet has chronic health issues, is elderly, or has a short lifespan (under 10 years).
When your pet is under the weather, the signs are not always obvious. Many exotics are often sick before they start showing symptoms. Scheduling an appointment with your pet’s vet at the first sign of illness, such as poor appetite, lethargy, weight loss, and shedding issues, can prevent a minor condition from escalating into a major health concern.
